Starting April 1, 2025, Legal Aid Alberta is formalizing the way Travel and Disbursement Guidelines have been applied to improve clarity and accountability for travel-related reimbursements and support roster lawyers’ work across the province. Key updates include:
- Higher reimbursement rates – Private vehicle kilometrage increase to $0.83/km.
- Increased meal allowances – Higher rates for meals during LAA-related business travel.
- Clearer guidelines – Guidelines are now documented for your reference, providing clarity and ensuring consistency. .
These updates recognize the time and effort involved in travelling for clients and court appearances and build on last year’s change allowing travel at all certificate levels for clients with preferred counsel.
The new rates apply to certificates issued on or after April 1, 2025.
