The discovery of the remains of 215 children at a former residential school at Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc brings the need for Indigenous Courts into sharp focus.

“This is why we act this is we act,” said Buffalo. “A lot of children did come home from those residential schools and with them they brought trauma that led to generations upon generations, and we are finding there is an overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system.”

Ask A Lawyer is broadcast the first Tuesday of every month on Edmonton’s Global Morning Show.
