Legal Aid Alberta allows employees time for learning and reflection to honour residential school survivors on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, Legal Aid Alberta offices will close early to the public on Friday, September 29 to allow our teams to participate in an employee learning event to foster meaningful reflection on our role in reconciliation.
While LAA offices will be operational on the morning and early afternoon of September 29, there will be some early closures:
Courts across Alberta will continue to operate throughout the day, and Legal Aid Alberta’s duty counsel service, including the Justice of the Peace Bail team, will remain available to the public. Lawyers with scheduled court appearances and client meetings will proceed as planned.
On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we dedicate time to honour residential school survivors, families, and communities. As our team works with Indigenous individuals and in Indigenous court, we’re dedicated to ensuring Indigenous voices are heard in the justice system and addressing the overrepresentation of Indigenous people.
