September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

In recognition, Legal Aid Alberta will close early on Monday, September 30, to allow our teams to participate in an employee learning event fostering meaningful reflection on our role in reconciliation.

Our main contact centre phone lines will be closed at 2 p.m. Regular hours resume on Oct. 1.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we dedicate time to honour residential school survivors, families, and communities. As our team works with Indigenous individuals and in Indigenous court, we’re dedicated to ensuring Indigenous voices are heard in the justice system and addressing the overrepresentation of Indigenous people.
